In nature, mantis's consume bee pollen in the food
that they eat. The flower mantids would have a higher concentration of
bee pollen in their diet. The following link will give you a scientific
study on the value of bee pollen being consumed by mantids.

To use bee pollen as a feeder insect duster, it must be crushed into a
finer powder so that it will stick to the feeder insects. If you want to
create your own Yen's Blend, use two parts crushed bee pollen to one
part dry

Honey Powder is a crystallized honey that is ground into a powder. You mix it one part honey powder to two parts Bee Pollen in order to make Yen's Blend.

The mortar and pestle is necessary to grind the Bee Pollen into a powder. You can also add the Honey Powder in at the same time, which is finely ground already, but it will help the mixture stick to the feeder insects.

You get one pestle and mortar, 16 oz. of bee pollen, and 8 oz. of honey
powder. This will give you 24 oz. of Yen's Blend.

Yen has shared his feeder insect dusting powder
formula with us so we can make it available to you! The mixture is 66%
finely ground
BEE POLLEN and 34% finely ground
DRY HONEY POWDER. All you
do is pour some in a bag, shake the feeder insects in the bag, and feed
them to your mantids.
These ingredients, if not ground to a fine powder will not stick to your
feeders, and not benefit the Mantids. We have done the mixing and the
grinding, you just dust the feeders, and give your mantids for proven
nutrition!
Mantis Place offers Musca Domestica, the common housefly in the pupae
stage. We receive fresh housefly pupae every week to ensure you will
have at least one to two weeks of high hatch rates. The adult flies will need to have a
source of sugar and water or you can use our specially prepared

Housefly and Blue Bottle Fly Food
Mantisplace Housefly and Blue Bottle Fly Food is a dry mix with 10%
ground organic Bee
Pollen added to the milk and sugar base. Bee pollen
cannot be eaten by flies unless it is ground to a fine powder, and is
essential in nutrients found in flower visiting insects. All you do is
put a thin layer in one of the small cups that come in the
Cup'o Flies
container. as the food becomes dirty (from the flies "spit") cover it
with a new thin layer. Of course you can clean the cup each time if you
want!
The advantage to using the dry food over honey is, the flies don't get
coated in it and make the hatching container a mess. This formula is
from commercial fly breeders, and if it works for them, it will work for
you too!

These are fat little non flying fruit flies, they can glide short distances though, they are a little bigger than the regular Melanogaster and a little smaller than the Hydei! They reproduce in as little as two weeks just like the regular Melanogaster.

The flightless Hydei fruit fly is much larger than the Melanogaster
fruit fly. It is the perfect size feeder for the nymph that is beyond
smaller fruit flies, but isn’t ready for houseflies. The rate of
reproduction in the Hydei culture is much slower, and you get 100’s of
flies from a culture instead of thousands like the Melanogaster. We are
now offering not only the Black Hydei, but we have the NEW Yellow Hydei
fruit flies too! The Gold is a little larger than the Black
Hydei. Give it a try and see how your bug eaters like it. They are
cultured just like the black so nothing new is required to raise them.

MantisPlace.com fruit fly medium is our own proven mixture for culturing fruit flies. We are now offering the MikhailsDino's Masa he uses for his fruit fly cultures as a lot of customers have a hard time finding it in their local stores. We include easy instructions. The same medium is made for either the Melanogaster or Hydei fruit flies, both are sold in our new 32 oz Mantis Jars! We have added honey powder and bee pollen to this mix along with dried milk and mold inhibitor! Which ever mix you pick will be a nutritious culture for your flies.
